Fleeing home under a rain of falling bombs with a less than certain future is the plight of thousands of people uprooted by war.
“We started to flee as the bombs fell. It was only later we realized we had not looked back. We had not had even the possibility of saying farewell to our homes, memories and the life we had lead. We stood there, just as empty as the places themselves. Our hastily packed belongings and the things that were forgotten now haunt us”. A precarious future and subsequent flight and exile from Syria have transformed the country into physical and emotional nothingness, a nonexistent place, lost between yesterday and tomorrow. Haunted tells of lost homes and shattered certainty, of the true and metaphoric meaning of home in the lives of human beings.
